چکیده

In an article entitled "Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis with Ostium Secundum Atrial Septal Defect: Successful Surgical Correction" (Chest 68:246-248, 1975), Smith and associates reported the surgical correction of coincident id ie pathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis with ostium secundum atrial septal defect. These investigators stated that in 1971 their patient was reported by Forker and Morgan1 as the "first" patient with coincident idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis and ostium secundum atrial septal defect; however, it would appear that the first case may have been reported prior to that in the American lournu1 of Cardiology in 1965.2 Although we are fully aware that, in fact, our case might not have been the first, a thorough review of the literature at that time suggested that it was. Surgical repair was attempted in that four-year-old patient, with initial correction being directed towards relief of the outflow obstruction; however, the patient died in surgery. That surgical correction of both lesions is possible is clearly shown by the report of Smith and associates.

Interrupted aortic arch in a child with trisomy 5q31.1q35.1 due to a maternal (20;5) balanced insertion.

Complex congenital heart defects (CHD) are associated with a variety of single gene abnormalities and chromosomal rearrangements. Of the various forms of CHD, aortic arch interruption, a conotruncal heart defect, is relatively uncommon. Here we report a male neonate with aortic arch interruption type B, secundum atrial septal defect, perimembranous ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arter...

Double-orifice mitral valve and an associated malformation: secundum atrial septal defect.

The authors report a case of double-orifice mitral valve (DOMV) which showed mitral stenosis and mild insufficiency. An associated anomaly was secundum atrial septal defect. DOMV is an unusual congenital heart defect. The occurrence of this anomaly with or without secundum atrial septal defect is very rare. More often it is associated with other congenital malformations arising from atrioventri...

The spectrum of cardiac anomalies in Noonan syndrome as a result of mutations in the PTPN11 gene.

OBJECTIVE Noonan syndrome is a clinically homogeneous but genetically heterogeneous condition. Type 1 Noonan syndrome is defined by the presence of a mutation in the PTPN11 gene, which is found in approximately 40% of the cases. Phenotype descriptions and cardiac defects from cohorts with Noonan syndrome were delineated in the "pregenomic era." We report the heart defects and links to gene dysf...

Second-degree Atrioventricular (Mobitz 1) Heart Block in a 52-hour-old Newborn: A Very Rare Case Report

Background: Cardiac conduction disorders are rare syndromes in neonates and children. According to the literature atrial septal defect, especially ostium secundum type, is associated with atrioventricular (AV) block. Wenckebach conduction heart block is very rare in a neonate; however, there is a dearth of research on the prevalence of this type of heart block regarding the neonates and pediatr...

Echocardiographic mitral systolic motion in left ventricular aneurysm.

An abnormal, convex systolic anterior motion of the mitral valve, somewhat similar to that seen in idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy) and occasionally in atrial septal defect, was found on the echocardiogram in 8 out of 9 patients with angiographically (7 patients) and/or clinically (2 patients) diagnosed left ventricular aneurysm secondary to m...
